Computer Myths and Facts

Whenever we assist customers with buying a computer we encounter many questions. There are also a good deal of misconceptions that are floating around the place. Before setting out to buy a computer system it is good to know which of these rumour are true and which are false. The below list will help you to know the facts.

Expensive = Better Performance
False — A more expensive computer or more expensive hardware does not necessarily mean that you get a better performing system. Pricing can depend on a wide range of factors like the brand of the hardware. You can get a lot of great hardware and computers in general from smaller manufacturers that have less overheads. You do not always have to purchase a product made by a top of the line company to get something that will perform well.

Upgrade = Faster Processing
True — Generally speaking changing your processor or adding extra RAM will make your computer function faster. However before buying anything you should also know that there are other options. You do not always need an upgrade for faster processing. Cleaning your computer up, checking for infections and even deleting some files or applications can all help to increase performance on your computer. Try these out before going for an upgrade.

Upgrade = Faster Internet
False — A lot of people think that if their internet connection is slow an upgrade will improve it. Although your computer’s specs may have a slight impact on how fast or slow things process it is not the main issue. Even with the best computer if your connection is slow on your ISPs end nothing on your side will improve it. What you need is not an upgrade in hardware but an upgrade on your ISP plan.

Clean Up = Essential
True — You cannot just keep using your computer without maintaining it. Some people feel like defragmenting and running registry clean ups are not needed. Over time as you use your computer, “clutter” actually accumulates within it. With a lot of clutter you can be hampering the performance of your system. Make it a point to clean your computer up regularly even if it is new. Better yet, get the necessary software with this feature when you buy your computer.

Self Repair = Money Saver
False — Unless you are a computer expert this is not a good idea. Whether you are trying to fix hardware or software it can be better to consult an expert. It can be easy to delete a few wrong files or attach something to the wrong part and destroy your system. One good way that you can avoid having to repair your own computer is by getting a good warranty. Most will offer you a one year warranty at the minimum If you need more than this it can worth paying for an extended warranty so you don’t have to do repairs yourself.
