Has your desktop computer ever slowed down or even turned off while you were using it? Have you noticed your CPU getting hot on occasions like these? A lot of people experience overheating with their desktop computers. Although your system may still be able to run this is something you want to avoid. Frequent overheating not only gets in the way of how your computer works, it can also damage the hardware overtime. You can keep your system from overheating with these tips
- Watch Your Hardware — one reason that your computer could be heating up is because there is not enough room for ventilation. Make sure that you do not cramp your CPU with too much hardware. If you need a lot of stuff then choose a bigger computer case that will have more space.
- Keep it Off the Floor — Some people tend to place their CPU’s directly on the floor. This can cause it to gather dust, dirt and other particles that can cause it to overheat. Keep your CPU at least a few inches off the floor by placing it on a stand or something similar.
- Clean it Regularly — As mentioned earlier, dust and dirt can be a big cause for overheating. When these particles get into your computer they can build up and cause heat to build generate as well. Make it a point to clean your CPU on a regular basis. It does not take much to do this. All you need to do is open up your computer case and brush off any dust or dirt. This is best done with a soft and clean brush to avoid damaging the hardware.
- Don’t Block Vents — A lot of us do not consider where we put our CPU’s. Most of the time people just consider convenience when storing their system. You need to see to it that none of the vents get blocked when you store your CPU. Blocking a vent can prevent the heat in the system from escaping correctly. You also want to make sure that the room you use your computer in is cool and free of humidity.
- Cool it Down — If your computer continues to overheat even with regular cleaning and the correct placement you may want to consider adding a fan. Your current fan or cooling system may not be enough to get rid of all the heat. You may want to make purchase a better or stronger fan to help eliminate the heat in the system.
- Add More RAM — There may be times when the system overheats simply because of the work that it does. If you tend to run a lot of applications simultaneously or play games that demand a lot of work overheating can happen. In cases like these it may be best to add RAM to your system.
