One of the most common problems that customers have when it comes to their computers is limited memory. Most people think that the only way around this is by adding RAM. When you think about it, this isn’t the only option, there are numerous solutions around. You will find that there are some solutions which you can do for free and other solutions that come with a small price tag.
Free Option 1: Clean Up
One of the easiest ways to add memory to your system is by cleaning it up. If you have a lot of files that are not in use, get rid of them. Do not forget that when you clean your system up you need to do it thoroughly. Do not just delete what isn’t in use on your desktop; clean up what you cannot see as well. You can do this by running a registry clean and defragmentation on your computer. This will make all those lost bits and pieces of disk space come together, giving you more memory.
Free Option 2: Limit What’s Running
A lot of the time we do not really pay attention to what’s happening in our computer. One reason that you could have low memory is because of all the applications that are running in the background. Check your computer to find out what is running and using up the most RAM. Try to figure out which programs you do not really need or use. In short, uninstall any applications or programs that not being used.
Budget Option 1: Plug in Your USB Flash Drive
These little data storage devices aren’t just for small files and transfers. You will find many USB flash drives in the market that have HUGE memory capacities. Some can store as much as 50 gigabytes in a single USB. If that is not enough space to store all your needed files and documents, you can always buy two or more to move across all the files that are not in daily use. The great thing about this option is that it will free up all that occupied space on your system. If you do not want to buy just one flash drive with a large capacity you can always get several smaller ones.
Budget option 2: Use an External Hard Drive
If you want to back your whole computer up, then use an external hard drive. There are a lot of fair priced external hard drives around. Many work with a USB cable, so its easy to use. Just plug it in and you’re good to go. There are those which can be quite sturdy so it is good for home use. If you are on a laptop and want something smaller there are also portable external hard drives available which do not require a separate electricity cable to be powered. You can get as much as 500 gigabytes plus with an external hard drive.
