Types of Notebook Computers

Notebook computers have become increasingly popular these past few years. They are great for people who need a computer on the go. It can be used for both work and study purposes making it ideal for both students and professionals. However, not all notebook computers are made the same. For customers looking into buying one it is important to know the different types around.

Ultra Portable
These are the smallest and lightest of all notebook computers. Generally screens for these machines are less than 12 inches in length. The average weight for these systems would be less than 2 kilograms or just about four pounds. In terms of power this computer can provide you with the basics. Most machines of this size typically do not have the ability for complex graphics. If you have your heart set on playing games then this is not for you. With a battery life of a minimum of five hours you can do a lot of work on it. Although its screen and keyboard are compact it is best for people who are constantly traveling.

Thin and Light Notebooks
Computers that fall under this category are slightly larger than ultra portable ones. Screen size can range from 12 to 14 inches while weight is at about 2 ½ to 3 kgs or about 6 pounds. These systems are about an inch to an inch and a half in thickness. From the name alone you can tell that these are easy to carry around. Despite being slightly larger than ultra portable Notebooks it is still not too bulky or heavy. With something like this you can expect to get decent performance and battery life as well. A lot of these come with video cards that are of high quality.

Medium Sized Laptops
Next in line are medium sized laptops with screens that are 14 to 16 inches in size. Weight ranges from 3 to 3 ½ kgs or about six and a half pounds. In terms of performance many of these can function similarly to a desktop computer with less multifunction abilities. Its processor may also be slower than a desktop but it can still do very well. Battery life for these last an average of two hours but battery replacements are often available. Typing can certainly be easier compared to smaller Notebook computers.

Desktop Replacement Notebook
Notebook computers of this type are the largest of all. Screen size will range from 17 to 20 inches and weight can be more than 3 kgs for some. Performance wise you can get great graphics and a good processor as well. Many of those looking to do gaming or run editing software can do so with this type of Notebook computer. You also get a lot of other extras like Wifi, webcams and USB ports. But battery life can be short lasting at only an hour or two.
